Concussion & Brain Injury Specialist

Melissa Volkert is a Doctor of Occupational Therapy and Certified Brain Injury Specialist with nearly two decades of experience treating complex neurological conditions.

She earned her doctorate from Washington University in St. Louis and began her career in inpatient acute rehabilitation at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, where she treated patients with traumatic brain injuries, strokes, spinal cord injuries, and other neurologic conditions.

Since moving to Summit County in 2011, Melissa has become a leader in concussion and brain injury care in the mountain community. She serves as the lead occupational therapist at St. Anthony Summit Hospital and also practices at Vail Summit Physical Therapy, where she specializes in concussion management and acquired brain injuries.

Melissa has worked with a wide range of individuals—from youth and student-athletes to professionals, first responders, and older adults—helping each navigate recovery and safely return to the activities that matter most.

In addition to her clinical work, she has facilitated the Summit County Brain Injury Support Group since 2014 and regularly organizes educational events for healthcare providers, reflecting her commitment to advancing brain injury care in the community.
